Ceramic nativity scene, 'Birth of Jesus'
Borne out of faith and tradition, this nativity scene evokes respectful admiration. Feriberto Aylas captures the solemn intensity of the Three King's visit to the newborn Jesus, bringing gifts of frankincense, gold and myrrh. Aylas hand-shapes each piece in ceramic and fires them in a wood-powered kiln. He then paints each statuette with engobe paints, which are created of clay and tinctures. Resplendent in vermilion Andean stylizations, this nativity scene evidences Ayacucho's renowned ceramic legacy.
