Alpaca wool rug, 'Legacies' (3x5)
"I wanted to use the traditional colors of Andean ponchos to create a bright rug, " explains Zosimo Laura. "These colors are still in vogue, and what I like is the contrasts that they create." The Peruvian weaver weaves the rug on a traditional loom from alpaca and sheep's wool.
Wool rug, 'Crosses in Red' (4x6)
Red crosses trick they eye as they transform golden lines to Spanish tiles. Woven from soft wool, the optical illusion is framed by a band of plant motifs. The Yurivilca Family creates the intricate patterns on a traditional Andean handloom to grace any interior.

Angelfish swim nose to nose in a graceful ballet. Alternating with stylized frogs, they form a colorful composition. Zosimo Laura surrounds them with radiant pools of light, masterfully weaving an intricately beautiful rug. Titled "Peces y ranas" in Spanish.

The colors of the dawn sky meet verdant mountains, conjured in a handloomed rug. Forming glowing crosses, the radiant motifs alternate in bands of dark and light tones along the length of the design.

The Peruvian sunset shines its captivating colors on this rug, its wondrous spectrum infused with rustic allure. Cerapio Vallejo's traditional artistry finds new expression: "I like to experiment and vary my production so they may suit new types of architecture and colors.

Stepped pyramids create optical illusions as their shadows seem to climb in opposite directions. Working on the handloom, Faustino Maldonado creates a splendid rug in brilliant colors. He works in natural fibers and adds a woven selvage hem to each end. Titled "Grecas" in Spanish.

Welcoming the first blush of spring, delicate tulips wake slowly from their cold winter sleep. Their tiny buds squint and extend toward the sky, still reluctant to welcome the full force of the insistent sun.

Dancing in midnight darkness, four figures pipe a haunting melody. Their bodies glow crimson, and the scene is framed with vivid borders. Evoking pre-Hispanic icons, Cerapio Vallejo weaves an enchanting rug on the handloom. Titled "Danza Andina I" in Spanish. 90% wool, 10% cotton.

The green of fertile fields meets the rich tan and brown of newly-plowed earth. Working with the colors of nature, Zosimo Laura evokes the sun-kissed farms of the Andes. He crafts this extraordinary rug on the handloom using soft wool and cotton.

Stylized owls join one another on a colorful runner, each portrayed as a unique individual. Zosimo Laura sets the wide-eyed birds on a midnight background. Reflecting the diversity of Andean flora, they also demonstrate the artisan's keen powers of observation.
