Parasols
Saa paper parasol, 'Forest Explosion'
Moon, star, and dolphin motifs painted in oils jump out from a batik-like background of dappled blue and green. The tradition of saa paper dates back two hundred years ago. Nikom makes use of locally available saa paper to create his parasols.
Ceramic and rattan centerpiece, 'Gallant Valor'
Ancient icons of Ashanti wisdom, three of the legendary Adinkra symbols embellish this ceramic centerpiece. Gyawu-Atiko has a coil-like shape and symbolizes valor, while two crossed swords are known as Akofena and represent authority and gallantry.
Paper parasol, 'Saddle Brown'
Warm sandy hues adorn this petite parasol by Nikom. Crafted with special Chinese paper, this versatile parasol can be used either in the sun or in the rain thanks to a waterproof film made from pounded persimmon.
