Wall planter, 'Salvatierra'
Delicate scrollwork in cobalt blue lends elegance to this exquisite wall planter. Classic in style, it is designed for the wall; openings on the flat back permit it to be hung. The Castillo Family crafts the piece in the style of Talavera pottery. First the clay is cast in molds. The piece is fired, then submerged in glaze. Once dry, the elaborate patterns are sketched and painstakingly painted by hand. Finally, the pot is high-fired for six hours to achieve a glassy finish. Although true Talavera is produced only in the city of Puebla, the Talavera-style ceramics crafted in Dolores Hidalgo are recognized the world over. The piece is named for a city in the state of Guanajuato. Because each piece is individually crafted, each is absolutely unique. The motifs could differ slightly from those pictured.
