Applique wall hanging, 'Coastal Beach'

Mar�a Ramos S�nchez here captures seagulls, stingrays, a squid, pelicans, fish and a crab - their varied shapes and sizes rendered with a hint of naivet�. Every animal in the tapestry seems to be having as much fun as Ramos had in the completion of this piece. She plays with perspective and removes the line between the surface and underwater, rendering the scene both chaotic and harmonious. Made of cotton (70%) and synthetic fibers (30%), Ramos produces the fantastical composition by sewing together pieces of burlap, recalling scenes from her own vivid memories. The animal and human figures are stuffed with cotton and integrated into the work, creating a piece of inviting texture and colorful wizardry.
