Wood djembe drum, 'Royal Spokesman'

Carved by hand in smooth tweneboa wood, elegant motifs surround the base of this beautiful djembe drum. Nana Adu Amankwapam I names it Okyeame II, Akan for "Spokesman." This title is usually conferred upon the king's personal messenger. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cloth, while macram� cords repeat the up-and-down patterns incised below.
