Wood statuette, 'Bigmouth Frog'

Working in richly-grained suar wood, Nyoman Karsa carves a curiously mouthy frog. The whimsical amphibian sticks out a long tongue that can be moved back and forth to make a noise. Karsa creates an unusual door knocker with Indonesian flair.

Kendang, 'Double Chalice with Ball'

Its voluptuous curves creating resonance of sound, this handsome kendang drum has two drumheads. Khoirul Anam, himself a musician, sculpts the beautiful drum from the rich grained of mahogany wood and affixes the goatskin drumheads with black nylon rope.

Mahogany harp guitar, 'Sea Turtle Song'

Ading crafts his own interpretation of a hybrid instrument in warm colors. Known on the island of Sumatra as a banjo guitar, it is shaped of mahogany. The sound box is crafted of a maja fruit while four steel strings attach to the curved neck.

A laughing dragon twines his handsome scales around the slim white length of this exquisite flute by Nyoman Lentong. Known as a suling in Bali, the instrument is carefully crafted by hand.

Bamboo flute, 'The Eagle and the Dragon'

Nyoman Lentong celebrates Hindu legend with the sweet melodies of this suling flute. It is an essential instrument of the Balinese gamelan orchestra. Lentong decorates the bamboo flute with coconut ashes to conjure the image of Garuda, regarded as Indonesia's national symbol.

Mahogany kalimba thumb piano, 'Compassion'

Ading hand-carves sleek mahogany wood into the shape of a heart, creating the base for this popular instrument that originated in Africa. The kalimba, or thumb piano, produces a hollow tone when its iron leaves are plucked.
